6 Year Check Up

Makenna: Little Miss Attitude! Makenna is still the same sweet girl she has been from the beginning... well, the one we saw on occasion before we figured out what was wrong with her. When she is not struggling with her sugar intolerance for Fructose Malbsorption she makes us wish they were all like her!

- Very sweet when she wants to be.
- Hates to give kisses or hugs unless she gets something out of it but if I am having a bad day, sad or just stressed, she wants to hug me and even kiss me.
- Always willing to help out when needed (if she isn't in a mood).
- She loves compliments and to be "noticed". If her nails are painted or wearing a pretty shirt, she wants everyone to say something to her.
- A few weeks before her birthday, she learned to ride her bike without training wheels and talked about I for days. She wanted to show everyone and anyone who would watch.
- She does very well academically in school. Very smart but does struggle socially. Most of her "friends" are her sisters friends. Hoping this next  year she will find a friend or two that she can connect with.
- She loves to swim and does very well at it. She is always begging me to get in the pool with her so she doesn't have to wear her swim arm floats.
- She can have such an attitude if she doesn't get her way. It's her way or no way. She is always right and wont stop trying to convince you until you give up.
- She is all about being fair. It's been a struggle trying to explain to her that life isn't fair all the time and we just have to deal with it.
- She likes competition but hates to lose. She is always trying to compare herself as being better than everyone.

Makenna is very smart, sometimes too smart. I see her trying hard as she gets older to get what she wants and becoming anything she puts her heart to.

Jaeli: Sassy Girl! Jaeli would have to be my best behaved child other than her sassy personality at times. She likes to know I am pleased with her and loves to make me feel loved! She has been struggling with sleep. She snores very loud and goes between 5-8 seconds without breathing. She is very restless and always tired. So we are going to do a sleep study and if that shows issues, then we will see a ENT doctor. She has always been a mouth breather and rarely breaths out of her nose, especially when sleeping.

- She loves to give hugs and kisses.
- She is still very much a Grandma's girl. She has always had a connection with Grandma B for some reason and still to this day, has that connection.
- Jaeli is very independent. I will catch her many times playing by herself and very happy to do it.
- She is the laziest of them all. She would rather just sit down, watch some tv or play her tablet and do NOTHING!
- She loves to sing, although she is not very good and just makes up words to whatever song she is singing. Maybe with a little practice and teaching she will become better!
- She loves to sleep in bed with Mommy, although we are currently trying to break her of it... it's been a struggle.
- Swimming seems to be a joy of hers. She has really taken off and does well with it.
- She does well in school. She is average academically and has taken off socially. This last year in Kindergarten, she had 3 very close friends. They were very close and all three even showed up to her birthday party. Her closest friend Ella and her are very tight and they call each other best friends. Unfortunately they will be split up next year, but they both plan on playing together at recess and we hope to get them together outside of school too. It's great to see her build such a strong relationship with someone other than her sisters. I thought she would struggle most but she has really come out of her shell.
- Jaeli is always wanting a book read to her, or even pretending that she is reading it. She loves books!

Jaeli is such a sweetheart and has a huge heart. I am looking forward to seeing what she will become and how many people she will touch.

Maysie: Drama, Drama, Drama! Oh Maysie, she has such a unique personality and LOVES drama! Maysie is very shy, but if she is comfortable with you, she will let you in and you can see her huge personality!
- She exaggerates everything! The smallest thing can set her off and she will cry and cry and cry!
- She has a huge heart and loves to cuddle with Mommy.
- She will give me kisses out of the blue, just cause she wants to.
- Maysie struggled with speech a little at the beginning of school but by the end she was doing great.
- During Kindergarten, she struggled academically and we ended up having my sister Mandy, who is a teacher, tutor her. She did great with her. Maysie really took off after Mandy helped her. I think she just needed that one on one time. She felt much more confident and even started raising her hand and answering questions towards the end of the year. I am hoping she continues this into next year.
- Socially Maysie struggled most of the year. Towards the end, she seemed to make a few friends and even got invited to two birthday parties that she was super excited about. Hoping this also continues into next year. We had a meeting with the school to discuss putting them together or separating them. After the discussion we decided to separate them but they agreed to send them onto first grade with a friend they had made.
- Maysie has taken off in the weight department. She went from being the smallest to the biggest! She loves her food. I am trying to teach her that we don't need to eat so much but it's been a struggle. She wants to eat until she can't eat anymore.
- She too loves to sleep in my bed, but think I broke her of it. Hoping so!
- When she is being punished or in trouble, she will smile. We HATE it and she always gets in more trouble when she does it. It's part of the drama, she tries to be silly at the wrong times and push our buttons.
- When she gets in trouble or is scared, all she wants is some loving. She loves to be cuddled and comforted.

Maysie continues to surprise me and I see her doing great things throughout her life. She may be drama, but her heart is so big. She is very caring which I think causes her to be so sensitive.

Weights and Heights: Maysie has taken off and first time every being more than Makenna!

Makenna: Height - 44 1/4" Weight - 48 lbs (42 1/4" and 44 1/4 lbs)
Jaeli:        Height - 42 5/8" Weight - 44 lbs (40 3/4" and 40 3/4 lbs)
Maysie:    Height - 43 5/8" Weight - 49 lbs (41 1/4" and 41 3/4 lbs)

Girls turn 6!

Can you believe the girls turned 6 just a few days ago? I can't! Time is going way to fast. I miss my little bitty baby girls. It's great to see them growing into such amazing little ladies. I will have many more pics to come as we had about 4 parties for them, but for now... I will post the one from their actual birthday.

Happy Birthday Girls!

And yes, Jace has a candle too. Poor guy had to sit through so many birthday parties... I thought he deserved it.

New Baby - Cousin Kyla

The kids love their new cousin, baby Kyla. She is adorable and looks just like her big sister Dara. Of course, I do see a lot more of her mommy in her than I did Dara. It will be interesting to see how much they do or don’t look alike as they get older. It’s like they are both a perfect mix of both Kris and Greg! This girl sure lets you know when you have upset her... and she goes on forever! We have another drama girl in the family! Oh wait... they are all drama! Ha! And tempers. Oh we are in for it!

Jace's Room becomes Girls Room

Finally got around to making Jace's old room into the girls room. It look really good. It only took me over 10 hours... but I got it done! Hopefully they keep the walls nice and don't destroy it like they did the other room. It's cute and pink!

Makenna Update - Again

Well, I decided to do an at home breath test since the one we did at the doctor failed. She did great. I even took it with her to make her feel better... and out of curiosity. She struggled with the diet part but we got through it. I took her out right after for a special lunch which she was super excited for. We got the results pretty quick. Me... nope! I do not have it. Makenna, yes, her numbers are still very high, much higher than they should be. Something else may be going on there... but I just can’t see myself having her GI doctor do the Small Intestinal Breath Test and paying $900 for it when I could do the test at home for $150. Makes no sense except they want money. I may have him refer her to a GI doctor closer to home. We will see at her 6 month appointment. We are just going to keep doing what we are doing because it works!

It's summer and hot! So I decided to see if the girls wanted their hair cut and they said yes. We went short! They all look so cute! Makenna is hoping it will grow back by October so she can be Rupunzel for Halloween. We will see.

Summer Pics

Bike ride to Ouabauche State Park
Maysie must not have felt good and went to bed with a trash can making sure she had something to puke in... well...
 Jaeli sleeping in the closet!
He is just too cute when sleeping!
Having fun in the pool in the backyard!
Enjoying some time with friends camping!

Summer has been fun so far. We have been on many camping trips and have many left to go. They LOVE it and great memories are being made. They love to be outside playing and running off all the energy they seem to have when they aren’t fighting!

They are 1st Graders!

The girls are officially in 1st grade! Jace has one more year of pre-school which is much needed. The girls did great at their graduation and were so cute. Time is going by so fast. I hear once they are in elementary school it goes very fast. I will just have to try and enjoy it more. Being summer now, we are ready for school to start again! They get so bored at home and are constantly fighting. They hate going to the Boys and Girls club, not sure why since they always say they had fun when leaving. I am excited to see what the next school year has to offer them!

Makenna Update - Another Breath Test

Makenna had a yearly check up at Riley. We were scheduled to go in and see the doctor and take another Fructose Malabsorption Breath Test. We decided to go the day before and stay with Aunt Tracy and visit with Aunt Jarilyn. Makenna was so spoiled! She loved every minute of it.

She got to meet Tracy’s bird and fell in love with it instantly. She thought it was the coolest thing it would stick its head in her mouth if she opened it.

We got to the hospital in the morning since she had been on a strict diet for 24 hours, we wouldn’t to do the test early. We were scheduled to see the doctor at 11 a.m. and her breath test at 8 a.m.

After Makenna drank the Fructose, the nurse helped Mak take the first breath and gave me the other three to do myself in the hospital. We had to wait an hour between each test. It was a long day but she did good. At this time there were no reactions. I did not like this test at all, she just blew through a straw into a test tube.

We then went to see the doctor at 11 a.m. we discussed how she was doing and his thoughts. Funny how he was telling me everything I have told him in the past but never took me seriously. It’s like he just read her chart and repeated it back to me. He said she is Zinc Deficient and to keep her on the vitamins but doesn’t think she need her multi-digestive enzyme. The only one he is concerned with is Lactase since the others are there, just a little below normal and to put her on a lactase enzyme when she eats dairy. He said depending on the test, he may went to test for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth because he doesn’t understand why the reactions are so delayed... even though I tried to tell him its normal for Fructose Malabsorption. It’s the same way for the other kids who have it. Do your research!!! I decided to just keep doing what we are doing, keeping her on the multi-digestive enzymes... why? Because it works!

He wants to see us again 6 months. Not sure why though. I may consider going to a GI doctor closer to home. Now that we know what is wrong with her, we just need to keep an eye on it, right? Do we really need a specialist (who really knows nothing about this... no one really does.)?

UPDATE: Results came back... INVALID. WHAT? Seriously? I am so upset. All this time we spent, the trouble Mak had to go through, the time off work I had to take... and the test is invalid? Why, because you didn’t train your nurse to do it correctly and had me finish the test. We are paying you to do it... so why didn’t you do it? Oh... okay, they wont charge us. Oh wait... but you did charge us. $900 for a test I could have done at home for $100. I was not happy. Needless to say, we wont be paying for this test, nor will we ever have one done again through your office. Outrageous!

The options from the doctor were... 1) You can come back and we will take it again. 2) Base the results off her reactions (which were only minor because when her stomach is so empty, it goes through much faster and she gets it out of her system sooner. 3) Test again at the 6 month check up. So I asked, well can we just re-take it at home? NO,... why not I ask? Well because you aren’t trained to do it and we want to use our lab who we trust and know is reliable. Wait... don’t you send it out? Yes we do. Okay, this makes no sense to me. Whatever. So I tell them no, we wont retest her. I will just wait and see and possibly do it myself at home down the road or retest in the future at the lab there. I wanted her doctor’s lab to do the test because I figured he would take it more seriously? Right? Well it’s not worth $900 and a possible success of the test.

Girls Room becomes Jace's Room

The girls are going to need more space as time goes on so I decided to switch their room with Jace’s room. With his being more of a square, there are more options to arrange the bunk beds. So it took a few days, but I got the room finished and ready for him to move in. The girls had to sleep with me for a few days, but hopefully I can break them of it!

I had to take Jace to get my oil changed the other day. He was very good and enjoyed watching the guys work on the cars. He says he wants to do it when he grows up... but then again... he says that about everything he thinks is cool. As much trouble as he can be, this is a great age. He is starting to show his true personality and really becoming a little man!
